ROMEO SAGANASH CALLS ON CONSERVATIVES TO TAKE THE ECOENERGY PROGRAM SERIOUSLY
February 1st, 2012 - 1:07pm
Val-d’Or – NPD MP Romeo Saganash slammed the Conservative government’s decision to cut funding for the popular ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program.
“The ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program saves families money, creates local jobs and reduces energy consumption. Not to mention, it pays for itself in economic spinoffs and tax revenues generated. This program had everything going for it, and yet the Conservatives have decided to cut it,” said Saganash.
The numbers published by the government show that the families that participated in the ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program saved an average of $700 a year for every $2,000 spent on utilities, reduced their energy consumption by more than 20% and reduced their carbon emissions by three tonnes.
“The NDP will continue to fight to make this program permanent. It’s a proven program with great results,” concluded Saganash.
