ROMEO SAGANASH AWARDS JUBILEE MEDAL TO GRAND CHIEF MATTHEW COON-COME

Ottawa – Member of Parliament Romeo Saganash has awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal to Grand Chief Matthew Coon-Come this morning.
Romeo Saganash was accompanied by New Democratic Party Chief, Thomas Mulcair and the event took place at the offices of the Grand Council of the Crees in Ottawa.  Grand Chief Coon-Come could not be present in Val-d’Or on January 20th when MP Saganash had awarded the other medals to the citizens.
“I wanted to recognize these citizens for their dedication to the community, hard work, service and political involvement. The recipients were selected based on suggestions from people and organizations in the riding,” said Romeo Saganash.
This commemorative medal was created as part of the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne. The Diamond Jubilee Medal recognizes the contributions and achievements of 60,000 Canadians.
