UNDRIP: 9 YEARS AFTER ADOPTION AT UNITED NATIONS, TIME FOR ADOPTION AND IMPLEMENTATION BY CANADA
Ottawa- NDP Intergovernmental Indigenous Affairs critic, Romeo Saganash, marks today’s ninth anniversary of the historic adoption of the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples by the UN General Assembly. This Declaration is the product of almost 25 years of work, when UN member states and Indigenous delegates developed the instrument to attain broad, global support and reaffirm the human rights of Indigenous peoples.

There are expectations we have as people trying to live well in this world: a home, good food, health and happiness for our loved ones, a cherished planet. Something as big and complex as the Federal Budget can sometimes hide the ways that government tries to address these needs. I had high expectations for change: I have heard constituents and people across the country state very clearly what they need in order to have a good life.
