We, the undersigned residents of Canada, recognize the following:
- On April 4, 2008, the House of Commons adopted a motion in support of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
- On November 12, 2010, the Canadian government endorsed the UN Declaration.
- The Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the Calls to Action has called on governments to fully adopt and implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as the framework for reconciliation.
- On May 10, 2016, the Minister for Indigenous Affairs affirmed that the Government of Canada fully supports, and will adopt and implement the UN Declaration.
Therefore, we call on the House of Commons to adopt Bill C-262, an Act to ensure that Canadian laws are consistent with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
