Today I would like to acknowledge and thank the many people who contribute their time, skills and money to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement and the work they do all around the world.

The Red Cross - Red Crescent continues to be a central provider in responding to health issues and providing humanitarian aid in communities and countries struck by conflict and natural disasters the world over.

The Canadian Red Cross has shown great leadership in the work they have done, including their response to far-away catastrophes like the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, or emergencies here in Canada like the crisis in Attawapiskat, only six months ago. They have shown professionalism, selflessness and compassion to those that they serve and continue to show that Canadians truly care about our neighbours across the country and across the globe.

On this World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, we thank the millions of members, volunteers, donors and supporters of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement for their continued support to those in need.
